9 Of The Best Treehouses In The US and How To Rent Them For Less
There’s something magical about treehouses.
What is it about treehouses that makes the heart flutter?
Maybe they bring back some of our best childhood memories of creating dens, playing on rope swings, climbing trees, and being in a safe space high above the ground.
Maybe it comes from being close to nature up in the leaved canopy created by the trees themselves.
Whatever it is, there’s nothing quite like the feeling that we experience when staying in a treehouse. But not all treehouses are created equal, and in this article, we are going to show you some of the best treehouses ever created.
Better still, these treehouses are available to rent, and even better than that we are going to show you how to book them for the lowest price on the web.
Be sure to read to the end so you get to see the bonus treehouse. It’s very special.

Let’s start off with a real crackerjack of a property.

That’s not the case here. Unless your dad was Frank Lloyd Wright or someone similar.
This 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom beauty is located in Newbury, New Hampshire, and what a place it is! It even has underfloor heating so you can stay year-round and still be toasty even when there’s snow on the ground.

I found this property on Airbnb and the price for one week (Oct 2 to Oct 9, for 4 guests) is $5,157, inc taxes.
I copied the property ID from Airbnb https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/45052498, visited hichee.com, and pasted the ID into the search box, then entered our preferred dates and number of guests.
Seconds later, I can see that this treehouse is also listed on VRBO and the price is only $5,016
That’s a saving of $141
This entire process took less than one minute.
But I used another HiChee function to book direct with the owner and I saved a total of $638.

2. Treetop Hideaways: Luna Loft
Location: Flintstone, Georgia
In contrast to the first treehouse on our list, this rental is a back-to-basics option that oozes charm. It’s more of a wooden glamping choice than a palatial mansion in the trees but that’s exactly why I like it.
It looks like the perfect place to stay for hiking and wildlife lovers. I can see myself and my wife having a coffee on the deck while listening to the dawn chorus.
Here’s what the owners say about it…
This rustic and refined treehouse provides a comfortable treetop retreat. Part glamping, part boutique hotel, your climate-controlled hideaway is complete with a bathroom and kitchenette up in the trees.

I came across this wonderfully rustic-looking treehouse on Airbnb and thought it would be great for a mini-break but before I booked I checked other booking options on hichee.com

But there are more savings to be had…

3. Cliff Dweller: Spend a night Suspended from the Ridgeline!
Location: Campton, Kentucky
This treehouse come cliff house has to be the highest rental on our list and it probably involves the most challenging engineering to boot.
The floating staircase is a thing of wonder and once you have climbed it you will be rewarded with fantastic views of the surrounding countryside.
You are guaranteed to get some Instagramable photos when you stay here. Some drone shots could be awesome.
Here’s what the owners say about the property
Cliff Dweller is the first cliff-mounted rental in the Red River Gorge! With the goal of creating a more intimate experience with the beautiful sandstone the Gorge is known for, The Canopy Crew set out to build what is now one of the most unique and adventurous dwellings you can dream of. This innovative design blends tree and stone, architecture and engineering, and comfort with exposure.
When you arrive at the parking area, your jaw will slowly unhinge as you stare up at the massive floating staircase that takes you to the top of the mountain. This will likely be the largest floating staircase you will ever witness. For your future bragging rights, here is the official step count: 177 steps to get to the kitchen, 45 steps to get to the bedroom, and 11 steps to get to the roof deck! Please note, we strongly recommend packing in backpacks vs suitcases, and bags instead of a cooler (there is a fridge inside). Simply put, the view from your bed will not be forgotten. You may choose to stay on the cliff your entire trip.

I found this place on VRBO and I then copied the property number into hichee.com.
I can now see that it’s also listed on Airbnb and that’s $221 less expensive for this 2-night stay. I’ll book on Airbnb because that’s a huge saving of $110 per night.
It pays to check on Hichee. I wouldn’t want to pay more than I have to!

4. Beautifully Restored Historic Mountain Cabin-a Tree House in the Woods W/wifi
Location: Lakemont, Georgia
Not exactly a treehouse, more a house in the trees, this lovely 100-year-old rental has a raised deck for lounging and spying on the wildlife.
This rental has been renovated with a huge dollop of style. The mostly wooden interior is warm and cozy and the furniture and fittings are 100% on point.
Everywhere you look could be on the front cover of an interior design magazine.
Here’s what the owners have to say about this historic property…
Wiley Mountain Lodge is a century-old Inn that welcomed North Georgia’s 1st visitors off the Tallulah Falls Locomotive Trains at Wiley Station. Horse and buggy brought guests to the front steps of, what was then, Mountain Laurel Inn. Guests were greeted by the Inn’s owner, Mrs Blanche Court, and the luggage boy took the leather suitcases up the winding stone steps to the broad front porch.
100 years later we have transformed Wiley Mountain Lodge into a cozy mountain retreat where you can quickly escape from the city to be surrounded by nature. The Lakemont style batten-board lodge is totally private, perfectly located, and completely outfitted with all the details. We imagine that our pioneer ancestors would get a kick out of how fashionable Wiley looks today. When you walk through the screen doors you immediately have a sense of connection to the past that’s hard to resist! Wiley feels honest and unpretentious. It evokes a simpler time with natural warmth, organic textures, tree top views, and clean mountain air.

So, my first search (VRBO) was for the best price. You can’t win them all, but at least I know that I can book for the best price available.

Location: Columbia Falls, Montana
I don’t know about you but I do like a high treehouse and the owners here have gone all out on a two/three-story property that sits among the pine trees, quite literally as two trees are growing through the house.
This rental would make for a great base for a skiing vacation.
Up the slopes during the day and up the steps when you get home.

7. WANDERLUST TREEHOUSE Romantic couple’s getaway
Location: Crane Hill, Alabama
The excellently named Wonderlust treehouse is different to the last treehouse that we looked at.
That one went high, whereas this one goes wide.
Getting The Best Deal
I found this gorgeous treehouse on VRBO and I checked the prices for a week’s stay this coming Christmas.
As you can see, the property is also listed on Airbnb and that’s $38 cheaper than VRBO.
Granted that isn’t a huge saving but why would I pay more than I have to?
It literally only took me two minutes to find the saving.

8. Romantic Tree House Cottage – Minutes to Mentone!
Location: Vally Head, Alabama
I picked this property, even though it isn’t strictly a treehouse, because it is so beautifully decorated and furnished. It exudes style. The spaces offer a feeling of tranquillity.
I could easily spend some time here.

Getting The Best Deal
I found this rental on VRBO and when I checked on Hichee I found that it was also listed on Booking (.com) and Airbnb.
I was looking at a midweek break in October 2022
It turns out that the VRBO price is just $3 less than the price on Airbnb but $27 less than the price on Booking.
Of course, you don’t always save a fortune when comparing prices but it’s worth bearing in mind that prices aren’t the same on different platforms and quite often there are substantial savings to be had.
But not in this case.

9. Treasure Hunt Tree House in Metro Atlanta
Location: Kennesaw, Georgia
I don’t know about you but I do love a rope bridge.
It adds to the adventure and takes a treehouse to another level.
This treehouse has a fun feel to it with its Swiss Family Robinson theme.
There are lots of little details like the cleat handles, ship’s wheel, and of course the toy parrot that add to the shipwrecked feel.
Here’s what the owners have to say about this rental
Welcome to Treasure Hunt Tree House, located in Kennesaw GA (about 20 min drive from Atlanta)
This is a truly unique three-floor tree house complete with many fun features as well as this cool activity: The tree house has an adventurous twist in the form of a treasure hunt for any guest who stays in this fun little bungalow.

I checked the prices on Hichee for 2 guests for a long weekend next Easter (2023)
As you can see it’s $165 cheaper if I book through VRBO.
That may not sound like a lot but it’s only a 3-night stay and that saving will cover the cost of gas for getting there and back.
Why pay more?
I can also see from the Hichee listing that this property has an amazing 391 – 5 star reviews.

Location: Dallas, Texas
I just couldn’t leave this treehouse off of the list.
The fact that it has 380 5-star reviews says it all.
Everything about this rental is beautiful in a rustic meets quality design and build. I could quite easily live here but I’ll settle for two weeks instead.
Unfortunately, it’s fully booked and I could only find 3 nights in January.
Here’s what the owners say about it
An exquisite, handcrafted home, blending Bauhaus contemporary with warm rustic elegance, in a secluded setting with a running brook and shimmering light filtered through countless Japanese Maples. Winding gravel footpaths through a forested canopy lead to the footbridge traversing Ash Creek onto the Treehouse entry.
